Welcome to my blog, a forum for sharing anecdotes about people, places and events that are truly mind boggling, ridiculous and make you shake your head and roll your eyes.
A bit about me.
I am fifty-seven years young (the outside may have seen better days, but the inside is still twenty-something) and female. Pretty much all my life, I have been an observer, a people watcher and judge and jury of all I survey. Not that I think I'm perfect, mind you. Not at all. I have my moments and as we move along with this blog, you can bet I'll be sharing them all with you.
I live in a small city in Southern Ontario, Canada. Like many others in this tough economic time, I struggle to make ends meet, keeping up with my mortgage payments, paying bills, etc. I don't have much of a social life (read "none at all"), who can afford one? I managed to purchase a couple of outfits this summer. The last time I went clothes shopping was about four years ago. No kidding. Not that I'm dressed in rags. I just don't require a lot of wardrobe. I wear a uniform to work so I really don't need a lot of things to wear on the weekend. Give me a pair of jeans and a sweatshirt or sweater or a comfie track suit and I'm good with it. I don't go anywhere that requires fancy shmansy clothes, so why have them? Often on the weekends I just stay in my robe for 48 hours til Monday rolls around. Why get dressed when you're not going anywhere anyway and who needs the extra laundry?
I live a simple life. I have a house. I have a car. I have a job. I participate in all the usual mundane day to day activities; working, grocery shopping, paying bills, watching television and, of course, playing on my computer when there is nothing on tv except reruns I've seen a thousand times. I love to cook and I'm darned good at it, if I say so myself. I have a "significant other", whom I've been with for ten years and who I affectionately refer to as "The Sloth" (oh, you're going to hear a lot about him!). I tried to set up his own button over there up in the right hand corner, but after hours of trying to figure it out, I decided it wasn't possible so I'll just have to fit him in here and there. I nap a lot if you consider 3-5 hours in the afternoon napping. No, I'm not lazy.
About that, though, back in April I had occassion to require the services of a doctor, who referred me to a gynocologist, who, after an in-depth examination, whispered those three little words you never want to hear. "You have cancer." Yes, it's true. On April 25, 2011 I was diagnosed with stage 3b cervical cancer and cancer makes you tired, thus the marathon "naps".
In case you hadn't noticed, I have inserted a PayPal Donation button at the beginning of this post for your consideration. My cancer clinic, the doctors, nurses, technicians and support workers have all been wonderful to me and every other patient at the clinic and I would like to be able to present them with a donation toward Womens' Cancer Research to thank them for all their hard work and dedication to the cause. These people work exceptionally hard and are the most dedicated, nurturing, empathetic professionals I've ever come across. If you have ever had anyone in your family or amongst your friends who has taken up the battle for survival from this incidious disease, you know how important it is to find the cure. A donation as small as $1.00 can make a difference. I will keep you posted on how we're doing as we donate to support Cancer Research.
Please also feel free to click on the "Cancer Bytes" blog up there. It's my other blog on http://www.blogforacure.com/frontend/pages/about.php. It's an excellent support vehicle for cancer patients everywhere. If you know someone with cancer, pass this link along.
I guess that's about it for today. Don't worry. Be Happy.
